Challenge
Connect Health and Community provide community health services in the municipalities of Bayside and Glen Eira. They wanted to understand if they should participate in the National Disability Insurance – would it be right for their clients and would it be viable for the organisation?
Connect Health had day programs and allied health services that were well utilised, and good connections with other disability support service providers.
The scheme was due to commence in their region in the coming year, and they intended to register as providers and assess the service options in which they could be most effective.
Action
Your Future Options assessed the opportunities from a policy and market context, analysed the specification and pricing of NDIS services and assessed how well these aligned with Connect Health’s strategic directions and service mix.
Analysis showed that the health and social services industry was a very well developed and competitive market in their region, so entry would need to be well planned.
A Project Reference Group with representatives from across the organisation provided oversight and input throughout the project.
Interviews were conducted with key internal stakeholders and a cross organisational workshop was facilitated, with a focus on strategic opportunities in the NDIS.
Two business cases were then developed for potential suites of services, and an Options Paper prepared for the Board of Management.
Results
Through analysis of NDIS funding and Connect Health capabilities, competitively attractive service offerings were designed for entry into the NDIS market in 2018. The Board of Management unanimously approved the recommendations of the report and business cases.
Connect Health registered and is now a provider of NDIS services, including:
- therapeutic supports
- early intervention supports for early childhood
- exercise physiology and personal well-being activities
